About Tanzanite: Tanzanite is the blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite, and it's found in only one place on Earth — a small mining area in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Discovered in 1967, it's often called a "one-generation gemstone" because the single known deposit is expected to be exhausted. Tanzanite is strongly trichroic, meaning a single crystal can show blue, violet, and burgundy or olive tones depending on the viewing angle — you can see this beautifully in the olive-gold pieces in this set.
