About Afghanite: Afghanite is a rare blue mineral first discovered in 1968 at the famous Sar-e-Sang lapis lazuli mines in the Badakhshan Province of Afghanistan, the country it is named after. It forms in the same marble deposits as lapis lazuli, and good-sized specimens like this one are seldom seen on the market. It is prized by collectors for its rich blue color and its strong fluorescence under ultraviolet light.
