About Agate: Agate is a banded form of chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) that forms layer by layer inside cavities in volcanic rock. Each band records a change in the silica-rich water that deposited it, which is why every agate's pattern is completely unique. Small hollows sometimes fill with sparkling quartz crystals, creating druzy pockets like the ones in this piece.
